We've just come back from DT's - a gay pub where QSAM has hosted the official farewell for those of us heading off to Europe soon. We've got our official Team Melbourne t-shirts and a Games t-shirt - do we need much else - nah.
I had a bit of time on the court this morning - just doing some serving practice. I wish I could take some time each day to do that - just to get the serve solid but I don't think the boss would agree with my doing that!
The Challenge
This is the journey of a 49 year old fat, really unfit woman who is determined to do her best in the tennis at the Gay Games in Cologne in August 2010.

Rankings!
We've been asked to check our details for the tournament - no probs. - so I check my details - all correct. And much to my surprise I find I have a ranking in singles in the GLTA - woo hoo - I am 509th...
Technically Judy is ranked higher than me because she won her first round at the GG in Chicago last time - 6-0 6-0. (Her opponent didn't show up).
Played the Thursday comp tonight and Judy came to keep the stats. Lost the first set 2-6 but won the second 6-3 - gotta be happy with that.

Everyone Has Her Own Wimbeldon
And we have Foxtel which means that we are now glued to the tv.
My calf is on the mend so I've had a gentle hit with the Ace Girls tonight and I'll go running with Ev tomorrow.
17 days until my last day at work ... not that I'm counting or anything.
This week is also the last week of the Thursday night comp so I'll do Tennis World Workouts for the remaining two Thursdays so that I keep hitting lots of balls.

Things are Going Swimmingly...
Since I can't run or play tennis right now - I've decided to hit the swimming pool. I've worked hard to get a bit fitter and I hate the way you lose fitness really quickly but it takes forever to get fit - if you know what I mean.
Only half an hour in the pool and I probably didn't get my heart rate up all that much - somewhere around 130bpm but that's ok. It's a long weekend here in Melbourne so I was able to be civilised about it - didn't hit the water until 10.30am - pity work gets in the way....

Well That's Torn It...
My calf muscle that is...
It was a bit sore last Monday but I thought it was improving. I was entered into a tournament this long weekend and as we started hitting up I felt a tearing sensation in my right calf muscle.
I decided to be sensible and not risk further injury so my opponent got a walk-over and I need an appointment with Tim!
At least we've got four weeks to go until we leave.

A Very Big Scare
No internet access at home has made updating the blog a little difficult but there has also been one other complications. Last week I started experiencing ongoing chest pain - a dull squeezing feeling in the centre of my chest and some breathlessness. Ok - do I ignore this because I don't believe that I could possibly be having something seriously wrong with my heart or do I be sensible and take the risk of being told it's just anxiety...
Ok - so I did go to the doctor and the end result is a perfectly normal ECG but low iron and over-replaced thyroid - both of which can cause chest pain and breathlessness. And the answer is a slight modification of the thyroid medication and iron pills.
Whew...
So, I can continue training and we'll see how I go at the local tournament next week. I think it might be case of collecting Charlotte points again but the more comp practice the better
